How Do Facial Fillers Improve the Appearance of Scars?

How do you fill deep scars on your face? Our Newtown, PA-based The Well Lounge team knows that scars can be a frustrating cosmetic concern for many people, especially when they are in highly visible areas. Happily, there many treatments available to reduce the appearance of scars, including hyaluronic acid and biostimulatory facial fillers.

Here are some of the ways these injectables can help to reduce scars.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers for Scars

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found in the body and is responsible for keeping skin hydrated and plump. Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane® and Juvéderm®, are commonly used in cosmetic treatments to restore volume and improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. However, hyaluronic acid fillers can also be an effective treatment for scars.

When hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into the skin around a scar, they can help to improve the appearance of the scar by filling in the depressed or sunken areas. This can help to smooth out the skin and reduce the visibility of the scar.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are a temporary solution, and the effects typically last for several months—or even years—before additional injections are needed. They provide natural-looking effects that can help to improve the appearance of scars without looking overdone or artificial.

Biostimulatory Facial Fillers for Scars

Biostimulatory facial fillers, such as Sculptra®, are another type of injectable filler that can be used to improve the appearance of scars. Biostimulatory fillers work differently from hyaluronic acid fillers in that they stimulate the body's natural collagen production processes.

Collagen is a protein that is essential for healthy skin, and as we age, our bodies naturally produce less collagen, which can lead to wrinkles and sagging skin.

These fillers can help to stimulate the body's natural collagen production, which can improve the appearance of scars by filling in depressed areas and improving skin texture. These injections provide longer-lasting results than hyaluronic acid fillers, with effects that can last up to two years or more.

Like hyaluronic acid fillers, biostimulatory fillers are a non-surgical treatment that can be administered in our office.

How Can Facial Fillers Help You Look Your Best for the Holidays?

Many of the wrinkles that develop on the face occur because of a loss of collagen that’s associated with aging or damage caused by exposure to ultraviolet rays from sunlight, air pollution, cigarette smoke, and other factors. With the festive season at hand, it’s only natural that you’ll want to put your best face forward, so many patients are seeking treatments to help them look their best for holiday parties and vacations. With this in mind, it’s common to wonder: If you want to enjoy the season to the fullest, can you have filler before going on holiday? Our Newtown, PA-based team explains what you should know about the benefits of these treatments and how to achieve optimal results.

Injectable facial fillers can be an ideal way of restoring smoother, less wrinkled skin if you are frustrated with pesky wrinkles or loss of facial contours. These injections are substances introduced beneath the surface to add plumpness or lift to thinning or deflated areas where creases and hollows have formed. Considering their versatility, they are a quick, simple way to prepare for the holidays—which is certainly appealing to anyone stressed by a busy schedule!

If you have a special holiday party or event coming up, be sure to schedule fillers at least two weeks in advance to allow plenty of time for any bruising or swelling to subside. The results last for six months or more, so if you get them done in December, you will enjoy the results well into the new year.

Fillers injected into the undereye area can help create a more alert appearance, while fillers such as VOLBELLA® create a firmer, more youthful, and smoother appearance for the lips. VOLUMA® is a thicker filler that can restore lifted, rounder cheeks for a more balanced face. Hyaluronic acid fillers such as these have the advantage of adding volume that is visible right away with minimal side effects and downtime

Contact our team at The Well Lounge for answers to questions about how aesthetic treatments can fit in with the holidays. Call us at 215-360-3940 or fill out a contact form to schedule a consultation and discuss skin rejuvenation options for the season.

How Long Do Facial Fillers Last?

Facial fillers are one of the most popular options for restoring volume and lift to improve the contours of the face or reduce wrinkles. They’re primarily used on the center and lower areas of the face to reduce etched-in lines, but can also be used for other purposes, such as volumizing thin lips and sculpting more defined cheeks. One of the possible drawbacks of facial fillers is that they are temporary and will eventually dissolve once they are metabolized in the body, so patients are often concerned about how much maintenance will be needed. With that in mind, a question we receive often from patients is, “What affects how long fillers last?” Our Newtown, PA-based team has some advice for anyone who is thinking about having these cosmetic treatments.

The skin on our face becomes more fragile and likely to wrinkle as we age because it contains less collagen and elastin, two of the most important proteins for preserving the skin’s structure. We also lose fat and some bone density from the face. These changes contribute to a more deflated appearance as we age.

While some people accept these changes to their skin, others are bothered by them and seek out topical skincare products or other in-office cosmetic treatments to restore a smoother, younger appearance.

Facial fillers are substances that add fullness beneath the skin to reduce the depth of wrinkles or augment certain areas, often “taking the place” of collagen or bone with their volume.

As with any other cosmetic treatment, individual results for facial fillers vary. In general, some fillers have a lifespan of six to 12 months, while others can last for several years. The type of filler you use will impact how long its lifespan is, as will the area where it is used on the face, how much of it is injected, and the speed at which your body metabolizes it. The midpoint of the expected duration of the filler is when you will typically notice a decrease in volume as the filler is gradually metabolized.
