Get Help With Managing Chronic Weight in Horsham and Newtown, PA

Obesity and being overweight can raise a person’s risk factor for a variety of health conditions, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes. Women and men who have struggled with chronic weight management issues can benefit from semaglutide—known as Wegovy® or Ozempic®—at Newtown and Horsham’s The Well Lounge.

Under the brand name Wegovy®, semaglutide is available as an FDA-approved prescription medication that works as an appetite suppressant for adults who are either overweight (with a body mass index equal to or greater than 27) or obese (with a BMI of 30 or more). As Ozempic®, the injectable is approved to improve blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events for adults with type 2 diabetes, but it has been found to also provide weight-loss benefits.

What Is Semaglutide/Wegovy®/Ozempic®?

There are multiple paths to weight loss, but many people who successfully shed pounds find that they eventually gain them back.

Reducing appetite is an effective long-term weight-management strategy, especially when paired with lifestyle choices like eating fewer calories and increasing physical activity.

Certain hormones in the body work to regulate how much food you feel you need to consume. Semaglutide has an effect similar to these appetite hormones, reducing appetite so there’s a decreased desire to eat.

The idea behind this treatment is simple. Semaglutide injections in the form of Wegovy® or Ozempic® “turn down” your desire to eat as much—and when you eat fewer calories, you lose weight.

How Is Semaglutide/Wegovy®/Ozempic® Administered?

Ozempic® and Wegovy® treatments are self-administered once a week and should always be on the same day of the week. The semaglutide can be injected at any time of day—but it’s suggested that you continue to administer the treatment at around the same time each day once you begin treatments. Ozempic® and Wegovy® injections don’t have to be accompanied by a meal.

What Can I Expect from Semaglutide/Wegovy®/Ozempic®?

It takes some time for the Ozempic® or Wegovy® injections to begin to work properly, so it may be several weeks before you notice a change in appetite—and a resulting loss of weight. Every person is unique, so there is no concrete or universal weight loss timeline.

The weight loss possible with semaglutide was the subject of intense research and studies prior to the FDA approval for Wegovy®. A 68-week medical study involving 1,961 adults who were either overweight or obese and who had a related medical problem revealed that they lost an average of 15 percent of their body weight when using the treatment.
With a starting weight of 232 pounds, that’s about 35 pounds lost thanks to the injections.

About one in three adults in study achieved 20 percent weight loss, dropping 46 pounds.

Remember that these results come from upping physical activity and reducing calorie intake in addition to the treatment.
