What Can QWO® Treat?

QWO® is approved by the FDA to address moderate to severe cellulite, specifically on the buttocks.

What Causes Cellulite?

There are several factors that contribute to the formation of cellulite. Although fat cells do play a role in causing dimpling, the skin condition is not a problem that only overweight people face. Even slim and trim people may find that cellulite develops on their thighs or buttocks.

Each dimple in the skin is the result of tension beneath the surface, where areas of fat cells are segmented by fibrous bands of collagen known as septae. These bands pull down on the skin above as the surrounding fat cells push outward and upward. The result is a small divot, similar to the spot where threads create a noticeable pucker in the fabric of an overstuffed cushion.

How Does QWO® Work?

QWO® is thought to target multiple causes of cellulite instead of focusing on a single factor: The active ingredient in the injectable “chemically severs” the septae, which releases the tension pulling down on the underside of the skin’s surface. This also allows fat cells to distribute more evenly as opposed to crowding in bunches and pushing the skin around any remaining septae outward.

In addition to breaking down collagen bands, QWO® also prompts new collagen production. Creating more of the protein builds a thicker skin surface that’s less likely to reveal irregularities in texture.

The changes that result from QWO® injections are gradual, with the reduction in cellulite severity developing over about 10 weeks.

What Does a QWO® Injection Session Involve?

Cellulite reduction starts with a consultation at The Well Lounge. We can examine the degree and location of any dimpling, then determine whether QWO® would be a good treatment approach.

QWO® is introduced by injections made directly into specific dimples in up to two treatment areas per treatment session. Patients often say that each injection feels like a slight pinch, but anyone concerned about how it will feel can talk with us about sensation-reducing options.

The duration of a treatment session depends on a few factors. Injections may take as little as 10 minutes to administer.

What Happens After a QWO® Session?

Most commonly, patients notice some bruising, redness, or discoloration at the injection site, as well as potential itching, swelling, warmth, or hardness. These side effects can be expected to resolve within a few weeks of the treatment session, and no downtime is needed. Other possible side effects can be discussed at your consultation.

The active ingredient in QWO® will get to work after it’s injected, but ideal results typically require three treatment sessions spaced 21 days apart. The cellulite-reducing effect may be seen in about 10 weeks.

What Other Buttocks-Focused Treatments Does The Well Lounge Offer?

QWO® is effective for smoothing skin on the buttocks, but there are also body sculpting treatments available for shaping the buttocks themselves. Sculptra® is a collagen stimulating injectable that can be used to boost volume, while Emsculpt® Neo uses energy to cause rapid muscle contractions that firm and enhance the buttocks.
