HALO Laser Prep & Care

We’re excited for your upcoming HALO Laser treatment! HALO combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to resurface your skin for a brighter, more even complexion, while targeting fine lines, sun damage, and age spots. Here’s how to prep: Below, you’ll find your full pre-treatment prep checklist, followed by your post-treatment care guide.

Before Your Treatment
Anytime Before Your Appointment

  • Let us know if you’re taking any photosensitizing medications (antibiotics, St. John’s Wort, etc.).
2–4 Weeks Before

  • Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner on the treatment area — this is one of the most important steps for your safety and results.
3 Days Before

  • Discontinue Retin-A/retinoid skincare products.
2 Days Before

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood-thinning medications or supplements, unless medically necessary.
Day Of (30 Minutes Before Appt)

  • Cleanse skin + do not apply any lotions, oils, or makeup.
  • Use the provided disposable headband to keep hair back & face clear.
  • Put on the provided medical gloves for clean & easy numbing application.
  • Apply your dose of prescription topical numbing as a thin layer over the treatment area.

Please contact us to reschedule if any of the following apply:
  • You have an active cold sore, rash, sunburn, or infection in the treatment area.
  • You are pregnant or nursing.
  • You’ve used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last 6 months.
  • You’ve had a chemical peel, laser resurfacing, or dermabrasion in the treatment area within the last 3 months.
  • You’ve had Botox, filler, or other injectables in the treatment area within the last 2 weeks.
  • Your skin is excessively tanned from sun or self-tanner within the last 2 weeks.
After Your Treatment
Day Of Treatment

  • An intense, sunburn-like sensation is normal for the first 2–4 hours. A cold compress can help with comfort.
  • Cleanse with a gentle cleanser.
  • Apply your recovery serum (SkinCeuticals Advanced RGN-6) twice daily after a serum.
  • Use a soothing restorative mask as needed to calm the skin.
Day After Treatment

  • Cleanse using a gentle cleanser.
  • Apply an antioxidant serum (SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic) once daily in the AM, after cleansing.
  • Continue your recovery serum (SkinCeuticals Advanced RGN-6) twice daily, after a serum.
  • Apply a barrier-repair balm (SkinCeuticals HydraBalm) as needed for moisture and protection.
Days Following Treatment

  • Redness, swelling, and itching are common — please avoid touching, rubbing, or scratching the treated area to protect your results.
  • If you experience swelling, an over-the-counter antihistamine can help.
  • Avoid ibuprofen, sweating, and physical activity for a minimum of 3 days.
  • Skip makeup for a minimum of 5 days to let your skin heal undisturbed.
  • Sun protection (SPF 30+) is essential every single day while your skin heals — this isn’t optional, even on cloudy days.
  • Your skin will progress through peeling/flaking as part of the renewal process — resist the urge to pick.

  • If you were scheduled for a post-HALO dermaplane appointment, we’ll see you then to help reveal your fresh, renewed skin.

When to Call Us
