Your BBL (BroadBand Light) treatment is coming up! BBL is a zero-downtime treatment that targets sun damage, redness, and uneven tone — here’s how to prepare for best results. Below, you’ll find your full pre-treatment prep checklist, followed by your post-treatment care guide.
- Let us know if you’re taking any photosensitizing medications (antibiotics, St. John’s Wort, etc.).
- No tanning of any kind — sun exposure, self-tanner, or UV beds. This is essential for your safety.
- 72 hours before: avoid Retin-A/retinoid skincare products.
- 48 hours before: avoid aspirin and aspirin-containing products, unless medically necessary.
- Arrive with clean skin — no lotions, makeup, or sunscreen on the treatment area.
Questions before your appointment? Call or text us at 215.544.3883 — we’re always happy to help you get ready.
- Your skin tone falls outside Fitzpatrick levels 1–4 for this treatment area (your provider will confirm candidacy at consultation) — treating deeper skin tones with BBL raises the risk of hyper- or hypo-pigmentation.
- You have an active cold sore, rash, sunburn, or infection in the treatment area.
- You are pregnant or nursing.
- You’ve used Accutane within the last 6 months.
- You’ve had sun exposure or tanning of the treatment area within the last 2 weeks.
- You have a tattoo or permanent makeup over the treatment area.
- Redness after treatment is common and typically resolves within 24 hours.
- Avoid wearing makeup or excessive sweating for 24 hours following treatment.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for a minimum of 3 days following treatment, and wear SPF 30+ daily.
- Dark spots may appear slightly darker at first, then flake off within 7–14 days — this is a normal, desired part of the process. Please don’t pick at them.
- BBL achieves its best results through a series of sessions — most patients see optimal results after completing 3 sessions, spaced at the frequency your provider recommends.
